How to use water based paints part 3

Preparation

Lightly abrade the surface to ensure it is smooth and dust free. It's important when converting an existing solvent-based coating to a water-based system you remove all the sheen from the solvent-based surface by using glass paper or wet and dry. This will ensure the water-based undercoat, satinwood or eggshell will adhere.

Do not thin

Thinning water-based paint will result in faster drying time and loss of opacity, leading to an uneven sheen and unsightly brush marks.
