PLGN 2.03 Compatability of coatings

The physical and/or chemical properties of some coatings and substrates mean that they may not adhere to each other or, in adhering, will not produce a continuous film. These products are categorised as 'incompatible'. If there is any question about the compatibility of coatings and/or substrates, advice should be sought from the manufacturer. If there remains doubt as to the compatibility of coatings, test areas should be coated with the full coating system before large-scale operations are started. See BS 6150:2006 Code of Practice for Painting of Buildings (or as amended) Sections 3 & 6 (Compatibility) for more information.

Compatibility with other manufacturer's products

ICI Paints cannot advise on the suitability of other manufacturers' products used in conjunction with our products and will not accept responsibility for defects arising from such usage.

Compatibility with preservatives

Where surfaces have been previously treated with preservative, check with the treatment manufacturer that the specified coating materials are compatible, and do not inhibit its performance. Inform the client of any discrepancy in coating system details and obtain instructions before proceeding with application.
