PLGN 1.01 Availability of colour

The manufacture of paint is a complex cocktail. Many ingredients can be made up of ten or more sub-ingredients. Due to the delicate balance between the pigment volume content (PVC) and the other constituent parts of the paint there can be a conflict between the desired colour and the technical demands on the finish coating.

ICI Paints have considerable knowledge in the selection of pigments and formulation of coloured paints and continuous on-going research is undertaken to offer the most comprehensive colour choice.

The use of cheaper grades can lead to a rapid loss of colour and lack of protection to chemical splashes (even domestic cleaning materials). Therefore two paints which started off as identical with the exception of the pigment quality will very soon be individually identifiable.

Refer to BS 6150 Appendix B (or as amended).
