Business owners in Southport transform shopping street with help from Dulux Trade Weathershield

When the owners of the private businesses on Wesley Street - a Victorian shopping street in Southport - decided that the street was in need of a transformation, they turned to Dulux Trade and local decorator, John Jackson, to provide a decorating solution that would revitalise all of its exterior shop fronts.

The solution lay with a number of products from Dulux Trade, including Weathershield Smooth Masonry paint for use on the majority of brick work, Weathershield Stabilising Primer for the newly rendered surfaces and Weathershield Exterior High Gloss in Pure Brilliant White for the fascias and soffits.

Weathershield Smooth Masonry paint is a quick-drying water-based exterior masonry paint providing a smooth matt finish, suitable for many exterior masonry and concrete surfaces. It is available in a wide range of Dulux Trade colours as well British Standard and RAL colours. This high quality trade paint now also contains a revolutionary encapsulated fungicide and algaecide to inhibit mould growth on the paint film, which helps it stay cleaner for even longer and still provides up to 15 years protection. It is particularly suitable for use in changeable weather and is shower resistant only 30 minutes after application.

Weathershield Stabilising Primer is a solvent-based primer specially formulated to seal unstable areas which remain powdery and chalky even after the surface has been thoroughly prepared for painting.

The Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Gloss System provides up to eight years protection for exterior doors, windows and other joinery, thereby lowering total maintenance costs. This gloss also contains algaecides and fungicides to resist mould growth and displays excellent opacity to give superior covering power.

Project decorator, John Jackson, comments: "I selected Dulux Trade Weathershield for Wesley Street because I knew I could rely on the high quality of the products from previous projects I have completed. By selecting these products, I was able to extend redecoration maintenance cycles. This has helped to lower the total maintenance costs for the owners of the buildings on Wesley Street, who have funded this work themselves.

"Through the use of bright pastel colours from the Weathershield Smooth Masonry range, I was able to transform a small shopping community, making it a nicer place to live, shop and work for the residents and owners."

Pam Tafti, member of the steering committee of the Wesley Street traders commented: "The new shop fronts look fantastic and have made a significant visual impact to the street. This project is a work in progress, but the new paint work has completed an important stage in the process of giving the shopping street a great new look, which will hopefully bring more shoppers to the area."
