Rhyl’s open-air events arena and promenade plays host to music concerts, roadshows, displays and exhibitions throughout the year, so for Denbighshire County Council maintenance of the ironmongery is a key consideration. As part of a partnering agreement, Dulux Trade, and contractors Pro PAINT, joined forces with the council to revive, refresh and protect the area for visitors to enjoy year after year.
Forming part of a multi-million pound investment by the council, the large 5000m2 outdoor venue holds a capacity of 15000 people and has played host to events, such as the Blue Peter Roadshow, for several years. With such high volumes of people using the facility, maintaining the area is essential to ensure it continues to reflect the reputation Rhyl has built-up.
To guarantee this, and as part of Denbighshire County Council’s cyclical maintenance programme, Dulux Trade was asked to provide a comprehensive consultation and product specification. Dulux Trade offered advice and expertise on achieving an aesthetic and long lasting finish for the metal ironmongery, including the railings, stairwells and stage area. Dulux Trade Metalshield was specified in a vibrant red, creating a bold focal point.

Metalshield offered the ideal protective solution for the architectural metalwork, protecting against corrosion and employing new ‘Barrier Technology’ to lock out air and moisture - an invaluable property as much of the ironmongery is in close proximity to the beach.
“We have successfully collaborated on a number of projects with Dulux Trade in the past, so they were the obvious choice for us,” said Chris Watson, Building Surveyor for the Council.
“The team created a specification that was tailored to our needs and a colour selection that really makes a bold statement.”
