As part of a partnering agreement, Granta Housing Society, Fleet Hall Contracts and Dulux Trade have joined forces to return the award winning Queensway Flats, in Cambridge, back to its former glory. Its original vivid colour scheme has been restored with the help of Dulux Trade’s colour services.
When completed in 1974, Queensway Flats received the DoE Award, formally the Good Design in Housing Award. Situated on the outskirts of the city, the Queensway three-storey apartments have since become synonymous with good design and an exemplary use of colour. Now, as part of the housing society`s five-year decoration programme the building’s exterior joinery is being sympathetically restored to its original colour scheme.
For this to be successfully achieved Dulux Trade was tasked with matching the exact colours using its paint analysis facility. By taking colour samples Dulux Trade individually re-created each colour to the housing society’s precise specification and original colour tone.
Painting contractor, Fleet Hall Contracts, applied Dulux Trade Weathershield Opaque AP to the banister rails, balustrades, fascias and additionally on the colour co-ordinated store shed doors. Dulux Trade Weathershield Opaque AP was recommended to meet the project’s colour and durability requirements, providing an opaque finish that will withstand high level traffic and exposure to the elements.
“We have, over the years, built up a good working relationship with Dulux Trade thanks to a number of collaborative projects. Their continual involvement in our decoration programme has been a real asset, with the Dulux Trade team providing assistance and advice every step of the way” said Adrian Hamilton, Planned Maintenance Officer for Granta Housing Society.
Granta Housing Society was founded in 1969 as a voluntary, independent organisation and has charitable status.
