Queen's College, London, one of the largest established girl's schools in the country has had its public face restored to its proper glory with the use of Weathershield paint products from Dulux Trade.
The college is housed in a magnificent Georgian building. The façade of this wonderful structure was looking less than glorious when contractors A. Diamond & Son began the project to re-paint all the exterior surfaces- masonry (including the period portico) windows, doors, railing etc
For the imposing front door the Weathershield Exterior Gloss System was the only choice. With its flexible undercoat and high shine gloss the system can tolerate the minor expansions and contractions of wood in a temperate climate, ensuring that the surface remains in peak condition for the longest possible time.
For the stone sections the choice was Weathershield All Seasons Masonry Paint, which contractor Albert Diamond looks on as a first choice for this type of project. "On a project like this you know the client is investing a large amount of money in the appearance of the building and you don't want them to have to repeat that in a hurry, so I need to choose products which are really going to last well."
The Weathershield Masonry paint provides particularly high performance because of its capacity to allow the stone to "breathe". Allowing water vapour to pass through the paint surface means that any moisture in the stone can simply escape into the open air rather than causing damaging lifting and bubbling of the paint surface.
Albert Diamond says that Dulux Trade has always been the manufacturer he turns to for all his painting products. "It's not just the product quality, it's also the technical back-up that is great help," he summarises. "If I find a particular surface of situation I've not met before the technical advice line will give me all the information I need on which are precisely the right products to use."
The combination obviously works - A. Diamond & Son has completed a number of projects involving the repainting of both the interior and exterior of the school building. For the interior the school called on colour consultants employed by Dulux Trade to advise the best colour schemes to use: a service available to specifers of large commercial projects.
