Long lasting Dulux Trade products will keep maintenance to a minimum on a new sustainable development in Milton Keynes.
Delivered by Inspace on behalf of Places For People, Broughton Square is a mixed tenure development with 229 homes for private sale, shared ownership and rental, as well as nine commercial units. The aim of overall developer, English Partnerships is to create a sustainable, economically and socially mixed community with every home having an ‘Excellent’ Ecohomes rating.
Exterior softwood cladding is a decorative feature of the external elevation of the housing and required an aesthetically pleasing coating with high durability for extended maintenance cycles. To meet these requirements contractor APC Painting used Dulux Trade Protective Woodsheen in light and dark oak on all the cladding as well as on exterior porches, car ports and bin sheds. This was complemented by Dulux Weathershield Aquatech Opaque in pure white as a final exterior coat on pre-primed window frames.
The Dulux Trade Protective Woodsheen was chosen because it can give up to four years exterior protection. It is designed to flex with the wood and so there is no degradation as a result of cracking, flaking or peeling. The Weathershield Aquatech Opaque can give even longer protection – up to six years – and combines the appearance of solid colour with the performance characteristics of a premium quality woodstain.
Steve Anderson of APC Painting explains, “We were asked to provide a woodstain finish on the external cladding and recommended the Dulux Trade Protective Woodsheen because of its superior performance.”
As Steve Cockram, Production Manager for Inspace confirms, “Performance and durability were important considerations for our client, Places for People, as it was looking for reduced long term maintenance. Steve Anderson suggested that we should use the Dulux Trade products and we are very happy with the result” |
