One of the UK’s largest housing associations has signed a five year exclusive partnership agreement with ICI Paints that includes an innovative recycling service.
Under the agreement, Family Mosaic, which has over 21,000 homes in East London and Essex, will use only ICI Paints’ Dulux Trade brand across its five-year cyclical maintenance programme and all empty paint containers will be returned to the Dulux Decorator Centre in Stratford for recycling.
Metal tins will be turned into clean steel scrap, while plastic containers will be turned into new paint trays. Any unused paint will be stockpiled and donated to community-based projects through the ICI Community Re-paint initiative.
Lee Winters, Asset Manager at Family Mosaic, says sustainability was one of the most important factors when signing the agreement.
“One of the key drivers for us was the recycling service. We have a green policy and are responding to sustainability and environmental issues by applying it to our contracts of works. This fits very well with other activities such as waste separation on site. We are also looking at sustainability in our procurement and Dulux Trade has the high performance products – such as water-based gloss paints and low VOC exterior paints – to support this.”
Lee says that the relationship with ICI Paints has developed over a number of years, and that Family Mosaic already uses only Dulux Trade products applied by Dulux Trade Contract Partners. This is in response to the need for high quality, durable products to reduce maintenance requirements, and the added-value services to back them up.
These services have included, for example: writing specifications; advising on how to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA); producing colour specifications and presentation boards for tenants; providing technical support on site, and maintaining quality standards.
“Even before we signed this new agreement we were very pleased with the service we had received from ICI Paints. With ICI Paints you get high quality products and the technical expertise to support them,” says Lee. “Working with Clive Boon, Technical Specification Manager at ICI Paints has been a real partnership for us.” |
