The costly and disruptive replacement of over 100 windows, in an office block in Edinburgh, has been avoided by utilising the combined forces of Dulux Trade and Window Care Systems.
After several years of wear and degradation, the existing window frames of Elliott House, a five-storey office building, were showing signs of decay where moisture and exposure to the elements had caused damage and discolouration to the woodwork. Contractors were able to restore the cracked woodwork using the Window Care Repair System, before overcoating with the Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Gloss System to ensure long lasting protection from the elements - of up to eight years.
"Having used the Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Gloss System before, I'm constantly impressed with the quality of product and finish you get," said Stewart Rutherford from Trident Building Consultancy, who specified the products. "By combining the Window Care Repair System and Dulux Trade Weathershield we eliminated the need for expensive window replacement, reduced the inconvenience to the existing occupiers and made sure that the quality finish achieved will last."
The Weathershield Exterior Gloss System is based on a unique NAD (Non Aqueous Dispersion) binder which enables the paint to penetrate surfaces more effectively, controlling the permeability and providing good adhesion, and giving the long term extensibility required to survive the harshest of British weather.
The Windowcare Repair System employs a flexible epoxy resin that can be used to repair damaged or decayed wood or as a joining compound for when replacing whole components such as a sill or Georgian bar.
Working together, Window Care Systems and Dulux Trade offer a total solution for repairing and redecorating exterior wood and provide a cost effective alternative to major replacement programmes.
