Residents add a splash of colour

Actively encouraging tenants to be involved in colour selection, Cross Key Homes has joined forces with ICI Paints in a collaborative project to revive the exterior cladding of its housing stock.

The project forms part of the Peterborough based Housing Association’s multi-million pound investment in a five-year improvement programme, which began last year. With 9,000 properties involved in the scheme, ICI Paints has been selected to ensure a long lasting finish is achieved whilst striking a balance with tenants’ colour choice.

Colour selection was a key consideration for the project. Dulux Trade created a comprehensive preview colour presentation to help tenants and the Housing Association come to a joint decision on the products and colour palette for each and every home. Dulux Trade Weathershield Opaque AP was specified to provide a wide range of colours including Blue Oasis, Hot Tikka, Cherryade and Ceramic Blue, allowing the natural texture of the wood to show through and providing up to 6 years durability.

In addition to the revival of the properties exterior cladding minor works will be carried out on the rendering, eves, soffits, fascias, bin store cupboards and meter cupboards.

Steve Ball, Project Surveyor for Cross Key Homes said, “Tenants can expect a survey to be carried out before any works start. This is so we can establish exactly what needs to be done to protect the structure of the property and improve the overall appearance. We chose to work with ICI Paints because it was crucial to work with high quality products and a company that could provide a high level of service, expertise and an opportunity to involve tenants in colour selection.”

Dulux Trade Weathershield Opaque AP is a high performance solvent based opaque woodstain for exterior joinery which is available in over 1,600 solid opaque colours. Highly flexible, it resists peeling, flaking and blistering making it ideal for repeated maintenance cycles.

Tenant Lucy Pridie said, “I have recently selected the colours with which I had my house painted and I am extremely pleased with the look and the finish achieved. The use of colour in the scheme has certainly brightened up the area for the better.”

Cross Key Homes is an independent not for profit organisation providing affordable social housing in the Peterborough area.
