The exterior woodwork on properties in Blackley Village, Manchester have been given a new lease of life thanks to the attractive and durable qualities of Weathershield Opaque AP (Advanced Protection) from Dulux Trade.
The contract is part of Manchester Council's regular maintenance cycle and has involved refurbishing the exteriors of around 50 council run properties in Blackley Village. After several years of wear, the existing coatings on the woodwork which includes fencing, windows, fascias, soffits and porches was starting to show signs of blooming where moisture had caused discolouration on the surface.
The original plan was to use a clear white finish to add some light to the properties however the finish of the initial product selected was unacceptable so Manchester Council called in Dulux Trade to help solve the problem. Weathershield Opaque AP proved to be the ideal solution as it could guarantee a durable finish while also offering a wide range of colour choice.
Weathershield Opaque AP provides up to six years protection and is designed to flex with the wood to resist cracking, flaking, peeling and blistering. The highly flexible opaque finish also has excellent water repellency so overcoming the potential for blooming. As the original colours for the properties had worked well it was decided to stay with this scheme. As a result Conker was selected for the windows, fascias, soffits and porches and Highland Green for the fencing surrounding the properties.
The effective performance of Weathershield Opaque AP (Advanced Protection) means that the properties in Blackley Village will retain their finish for longer and importantly for the Council, this will mean extended maintenance cycles and reduced repair costs.
