Balancing the books of a hospital is usually a thankless task, but thanks to the Glidden range of professional paints, the new Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital has reaped the benefits of choosing a paint range that offers excellent value for money.
Even with the £24.5m invested in the overall project there was still a need to keep to a tight reign on the budget and when it came to choosing a cost effective professional paint Glidden provided the perfect solution. Now covering more than 90% of the hospital's interiors, the decision to use Glidden products was unanimous.
Contractors Mclaren & Co Ltd, who carried out the paintwork throughout the hospital, had no hesitation in recommending it. Managing Director Ralph Skene said, "Along with the main contractors, Robertson Construction Eastern Limited, we were unanimous in our decision to use Glidden products. We felt we chose a reliable paint for a professional finish."
He added: "When we needed colour it was used without fear and the whites coated on professionally. To justify the cost of something like a hospital, products like Glidden give you the advantage of using professional paint at a reasonable coast."
Other factors also required consideration when it comes to choosing the type of paint. The products required needed to be extremely robust to ensure longevity and be of a professional quality, characteristics that were found in Glidden Trade Acrylic Eggshell and Glidden Trade High Gloss.
Project Architect, Bruce Balance, of Mackie Ramsay Taylor felt the choice of paint in the scheme of design and functional necessities of a hospital was an excellent choice.
He said: "The paint scheme was generally kept simple, so Glidden was a good choice, as the whites and pale blues worked best. In certain key areas stronger colours were used, but the main areas we proposed simple clean colours, as was appropriate for a hospital."
